What Our Summer Workshops Are
In a previous post, we looked at how students hit a huge culture shock when they transition from GCSE to A-level. New surroundings, new teachers and new material combine to give an overwhelming challenge when starting the new term in September. To help smooth this transition, we have introduced a bridging workshop.
The post title promises to tell you what these sessions are. But let's start with what they are not. They are not GCSE revision classes. We are not going to cram two years' worth of GCSE content into six hours. Likewise, we are not going to teach you the first term's content so that you are well ahead of your colleagues when you start. This workshop is very content light.
Instead, the workshop is about preparing you for the study which you are going to have to do when you get into your new classes. As an experienced tutor, I have developed a series of sessions which will guide students through the areas which repeatedly cause difficulties in that first term. Yes, we will use examples from the syllabus, but they will be to illustrate, highlight and overcome the misconceptions students have, and the errors they make, time and again.
For example, students often lose marks on chemistry practical questions. Some of the reasons include: inaccurate scientific language, wasting time writing information which is unnecessary and being ambiguous. In the workshop, we will use specific examples of questions with model answers to show how good students gain marks and, importantly, where weaker students lose marks with credible looking responses.
By the end of the workshop, students will go home with a workbook with examples of good responses to exam questions, my year 12 survival guide: how to start strong, and my common mistakes checklist. This package will set up ambitious students perfectly for the beginning of the school year. And as an extra incentive, attendees will have exclusive booking access to our "transition support package" for the first half term and priority booking for recurring 1:1 support.
Spaces are restricted to six students to ensure all students get the support and guidance they need. So if you want to secure your place, head over to our booking page and sign up today.
